All you need to know is JYOCHO is coming.

Uchu Conbini was one of the greatest NMFT bands. A very young, incredibly skilled band unlike any other that played a sublime brand of math-pop. They had unlimited potential and were destined for greatness but shocked fans around the world by breaking up shortly after coming to Canada.

Daijiro Nakagawa is the guitar phenom and songwriting genius who penned all of Uchu Conbini’s songs.
His new band JYOCHO is the spiritual successor to Uchu Conbini. The sound has matured leaning more towards folk than pop especially with the addition of flute. However, the drumming and guitars though still incredibly clean are even more jaw-droppingly badass.

And if JYOCHO’s world premiere live performance isn’t enough to entice you… then you’re absolutely crazy… but I’ve hand-picked four other great acts to make for an amazing night of eclectic music.

Nuito – a legendary 3-pc instrumental band from Kyoto who disbanded in 2009 right after releasing one of the greatest math rock albums in history. A masterpiece called ‘Unutella.’ After a seven year hiatus they’ve reunited to let the world know their genius and musical prowess is neither myth nor the work of extraterrestrials

Gozen Sanji to Taikutsu – they held Canadian audiences in the palms of their hands with their poppy yet surprisingly dark, quirky and powerful live performances during NMFT8. This adorable female band (with new male guitarist)’s greatest strength is their willingness to experiment and write songs that sound so different from each other. Although rooted in emo-tinged pop they veer into hardcore, noise, folk, a bit of dance and funk, shoegazer and everything in between. Cute as hell, unpredictable and badass. They killed it in Canada last year and are back again with a bevy of new songs.

o’summer vacation – 3-pc hardcore/noise band with bass, drums and female hushed to screamed vocals (no guitar necessary). Too skilled to be no-wave yet too irreverent and messy to be math-rock but enough qualities of both to appeal to those who like their music to equivocate between chaotic and precise

Koutei Camera Girl Drei – idol group that raps over sublime instrumentals ranging from EDM to emo/shoegaze to experimental/glitch. The music is incredibly well crafted in the vein of Nujabes, Evisbeats, and Flying Lotus. No the music doesn’t sound like those artists per se but the soul and supreme attention to detail is cut from the same cloth. They come across less like an idol group and more like a female group_inou.
